Tragic

Tragic draws inspiration from the numerous, talented musicians who have been taken from us too young. Visually, much of our inspiration is taken from one such tragic figure, Michael Jackson.

Musically and thematically, this show is tied together by the haunting motifs of Blue Oyster Cult’s Don’t Fear the Reaper. The first movement begins with Reaper, a grim foreshadowing of the ultimate tragedy to come, before layering in Jackson’s Smooth Criminal. The second movement uses Lennon’s Imagine to reflect on the tragedy of a career cut too short. Finally, the third movement uses Justin Timberlake’s Cry Me a River as the basis of a percussive dance off before transitioning to Billy Joel’s Only the Good Die Young as a final comment on the tragedy.
